Description
The basic data of the publication “Zurich 1799” — texts, images, maps and spatial data — were published as open administrative data on the occasion of the 1st Swiss “Culture Hackathon” from the end of February 2015.
Historical hindquarters of the publication: In 1799, ten years after the French Revolution, the Zurich area was the scene of two battles. In the first battle, Austrian troops fought against French, in the second French against Russian. The publication draws this dramatic time from the perspective of the victims, including the city of Zurich itself. Experts from different disciplines follow the questions raised by an archaeological find from that time: the skeleton of a soldier killed in the second battle of Zurich in Russian uniform.
