Suspected area register and contaminated site atlas status: 1 January 2012
Description
This report provides an overview of the status of the recording of old deposits and sites and the processing of these areas as part of the implementation of the Altlast Remediation Act. The processing mainly involves the investigation of suspected areas and the assessment of the environmental hazard that arises or may arise from old deposits and old sites. In addition, the report provides an overview of the state of play of the remediation of contaminated sites. The report is based on all information on old deposits and sites known to the Federal Environment Agency on 1 January 2012. The number of suspected areas fell by 110 compared to the previous year. In 2011, three new inherited liabilities were identified, a total of 259 contaminated sites are currently known. The number of remedied or secured contaminated sites increased by eight.
