Suspected area register and contaminated site atlas status: 1 January 2011
Description
The annual updated report provides information on the level of collection and processing of old deposits and sites in Austria, which were notified to the Federal Environment Agency on 1 January 2011. In accordance with the Remediation Act, the areas covered must be processed. Therefore, the suspected areas are investigated and the environmental hazard that arises or may arise from old deposits and sites is assessed. Currently, about 90 % of all old sites in Austria are already registered, so the survey can be largely completed in 2011. The number of suspected areas increased by 114 compared to the previous year. A new legacy was reported in 2010, i.e. 256; the number of remedied or secured contaminated sites increased by five to a total of 108.
