Description
COL_MAERL.The objective of the project is to assess the cumulative impact of fishing on the maërl bottoms by comparing impacted bottoms outside the Columbretes Islands marine reserve with protected bottoms, for more than two decades, within the reserve. This knowledge will inform the development of fishing methods that promote sustainable activities in the study area. Therefore, in this campaign the main objectives are: 1) Obtain information on the distribution of maërl bottoms in the study area, through spot observations with submersible camera (IPSE). 2)Comparing the composition of indicator and structural species of maërl/rodolitos backgrounds in terms of species composition, morphotypes and sizes. For this purpose, benthos shall be sampled by means of dredges. 3) Obtain abundance indexes and lobster demography through priming video. The video shoots will be carried out in areas with different levels of protection, both inside the reserve and in the nearest environment. 4) Analyze in detail the samples obtained with the dredges, in order to detect changes in the structure of the algal and faunal communities of the maërl/rodolitos bottoms, comparing localities in a gradient of fishing pressure.
