SUMMARY:The project PLATERIAS financed by Xunta de Galicia in its sectoral program of Tecnoloxias Ambientais has as objective the study of the physical oceanography of the continental shelf and rias of Galicia by means of the development and integration of the existent observation network and the demonstration of the feasibility of the modelling of the dynamics of the rias of Galicia and the adjacent shelf means by means of a hydrodynamic model coupled to a meteorological mesoscale regional and local high resolution model. This campaign is intended to contribute to the improvement of our knowledge of the shelf in the Costa da Morte, where a lack of measurements exists that became evident during the Prestige crisis. The shelf between Finisterre and Sisargas was where the highest hydrocarbon concentrations were detected.OBJECTIVES:To contribute to the characterization of the circulation in the shelf and adjacent slope in Costa da Morte: To detect the possible presence of coastal trapped waves described in other similar shelves as the coast west of UnitedStates where they characterize part of the variability - To characterize the temporal and space variability of the currents and the thermohaline structure in the shelf. - To characterize the hydrography of the shelf and adjacent slope between Finisterre and Cabo Vilan, an area of active dynamics characterized by an intense upwelling associated to the topography and to the regime of winds. In the area it is of expected the presence of upwelling fronts.
