Campaign: ECOMALAGA 02-2003
Description
CR Ecomalaga-0203 Obtaining physical, chemical and biological parameters for the study of time series (Ecom?!laga project). Within the framework of the Ecom?!laga Project, the following samplings have been carried out in fixed stations belonging to six radio stations: 1.- Data collection of temperature, salinity and fluorescence in the water column with a Sea Bird 25 CTD. 2.- Determination of the attenuation of solar radiation in the water column by Secchi disk. 3.- Sampling of seawater, at preset depths with Niskin bottles for the measurement of the following chemical and biologic parameters in several preset depths: dissolved oxygen, pH, alkalinity, nutrients (phosphates, nitrates, nitrites and silicates), chlorophyll a, and taxonomic study of phytoplankton. 4.- Oblique trawls with Bongo 40 network for sampling plankton and ichthyoplankton at fixed stations. Within the framework of the Noralbor?!n Project (financed by CICYT), the objectives are sampling for the development of methodologies, assembly of incubation systems, testing of radiometer operation and carrying out of continuous sampling in a stall. For the preliminary studies of incorporation of 15N that are contemplated in the project, it is necessary to determine the volume for incubation, as well as the assembly of appropriate incubation systems. During the campaign, the provisional assembly of an incubation system was carried out on the cover of the B/O. This system allowed the water samples to be incubated at sea surface temperature, simulating the light conditions in addition to the different sampling depths. During the campaign the researchers of the University of Malaga participating in the Noralbor?!n Project took water samples in different seasons and at different depths for the calibration of bacterioplamcton counting methods using different techniques. Tests were also carried out on the operation of a radiometer at various stations. The Noralboran Project largely addresses the study of plankton metabolism (respiration, production and CO2 assimilation rates). It is known that plankton present daily cycles, observing vertical displacements of the maximum subsurface fluorescence depending on the incident solar radiation. These cycles can affect the metabolic rates that are intended to be addressed as objectives of the Noralbor?!n Project. Therefore another of the objectives of the campaign was the realization of a continuous sampling in a station for 12 hours. - ref 0301
