The EnviroFacts REST API provides users of Envirofacts with the ability to query any table through the use of a URL. The default output is in XML, which can be utilized in other applications, as well as tools such as Microsoft Excel or Access. Output options of CSV and Excel can be requested in the URL. The entire Envirofacts database metadata is available online, so that all tables and columns within Envirofacts, including the Toxics Release Inventory (TRI) are documented. |

The Toxics Release Inventory (TRI) Basic Plus Data Files are a set of eight files that collectively contain all the data that were submitted on the TRI Reporting Form R or Certification Statement (Form A) by facilities in a selected state. Data may be downloaded by reporting year. |

Dioxin and dioxin-like compounds data are reported on the TRI Reporting Form R Schedule 1. There are seventeen distinct members of this chemical category listed under TRI. In addition to the total grams released for the entire category, facilities must report the quantity for each individual member. Although useful, total releases are not the best measure of the actual toxicity of these compounds because each compound has its own level of toxicity. To account for how compounds vary in toxicity, EPA calculates weighted values called toxic equivalents (TEQs) from the individual mass quantity data reported by facilities and the associated Toxic Equivalency Factors (TEFs). TEQs allow for a better understanding of the toxicity of releases and waste management activities at facilities that report to the TRI Program. |

The TRI Basic Data Files are provided in an easy-to-use format that contains the data elements most frequently requested by TRI data users. The Toxics Release Inventory (TRI) Program has found that data users are most interested in the quantity data reported by TRI facilities, including the quantities of toxic chemicals released on-site, the quantities transferred off-site and summary data concerning releases, recycling, energy recovery and treatment as they appear in the Pollution Prevention portion of the TRI Reporting Form R (one of the two reporting forms EPA uses to collect TRI data from facilities). Data may be downloaded by reporting year and optionally by state. |
