Description

_sorting table of the National Museum of Natural History based on the ArcategTM repository. Agreement drawn up in French and signed by hand on 09/10/2020 by the Director of the MNHN and the Director of the ANLux._ **History of administration:** The history of the MNHN begins with the creation, in 1854, of a natural sciences firm within the Athénée de Luxembourg to house and exhibit the collections of the Société des sciences naturelles. In 1922, the State acquired the buildings at Marché-aux-Poissons and planned to display the collections in the renovated buildings of the State Museums. When the installations were almost completed in 1940, the museum was managed by the occupier and at the end of the war the collections had to be relocated again to a protected place. In 1946, a first temporary exhibition was organized. The last hall of the MNHN was inaugurated in 1952. In the 1960s and 1970s, the MNHN diversified its activities (geophysical sciences, astrophysics, planetarium). Since 1980, the museum has been developing an educational service, environmental awareness activities and relaunching scientific research on natural heritage. From June 1996, the National Museum of History and Art and the MNHN split into two separate museums. First administratively by the Law of 28 December 1988 and physically with new premises in the Grund, including the Hospice Saint-Jean, where the MNHN takes up residence. On the occasion of its 150th anniversary in 2004, the MNHN publishes a commemorative book detailing its history and missions. **Main tasks: ** - Valuing the museum's collections - Actively participate in the study of natural and scientific heritage **Regulatory references:** - Law of 25 February 2022 on cultural heritage - Law of 25 June 2004 on the reorganisation of State cultural institutes **Versions and updates:** The following shall be published in the dataset: - The first version signed on 09/10/2020
