Agreement drafted in French and signed electronically on 05/07/2022 by the Director of the ANF and the Director of the ANLux._ **History of administration:** The Nature and Forestry Administration (hereinafter referred to as ANF) is under the authority of the Ministry of the Environment, Climate and Sustainable Development (hereinafter referred to as MECDD). It is the guarantor of the maintenance and improvement of the natural heritage of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. The ANF is one of the oldest administrations in Luxembourg. Its creation dates back to the Royal Grand Ducal Ordinance of 1 June 1840 on the organisation of the forestry sector. It was then called the Forestry Administration. This is the first unified effort to manage forests, which until now have been under-managed by the State or municipalities. The main aim of the reform is to provide a framework in terms of human resources and to set management objectives for the public forest. A new forestry law in 1849 placed forest management under the responsibility of municipalities and public institutions without state intervention. The State took over forest management with the Law of 7 April 1909 on the reorganisation of the water and forest administration. On this occasion, the Forestry Administration became the Water and Forestry Administration and extended its powers to the management of hunting and fishing. This law reshuffles the territorial competences of administrative staff. It also professionalizes agents by setting thresholds for initial training to practice. As a result, the administrative framework remains fairly stable and it is mainly practices in forest management that are evolving. The main aim of the 1973 and 1989 reforms was to create the new structures within the administration to carry out the new tasks conferred by the various successive laws on nature protection. The NFA, in its current form, dates from the 2009 reform. The new Nature and Forestry Administration retains the tasks of nature protection, forest management, hunting management and police missions. The awareness-raising mission has been added.
