Description
DESCRIPTION: According to Rivas Martínez (1987), the bioclimatic floor is understood as each of the spaces that follow each other altitudinally, with the consequent variations in temperature. The bioclimatic units are delimited according to temperatures, precipitation and the distribution of both throughout the year. To each bioclimatic floor corresponds, a series of plant communities that vary according to the biogeographic regions, but that maintain great features in common. Each region has a series of floors defined by temperature and the plant taxa that characterize them. METHODOLOGY: Spain belongs biogeographically to the Holártico or Boreal Kingdom, Subreino Tetián, presenting 3 regions divided into 13 bioclimatic floors, corresponding to the Inframediterráneo to North Africa: I. Euro-Siberian Region A. Alpine B. Subalpine C. Montano D. Colino II. Mediterranean region E. Cryo-Mediterranean F. Oro-Mediterranean G. Supra-Mediterranean H. Mesomediterranean I. Thermo-Mediterranean (*) Inframediterranean III. Macaronesian region (Because of their extreme bioclimatic similarity, these vegetation floors are often assimilated to their Mediterranean equivalents): J. Supracanario K. Mesocanario L.
