Section II of the National Atlas of Spain (ANE) analyzes the relationship between the human community and the natural environment, highlighting how the latter has provided essential resources for social and economic progress and development. Understanding the history and socioeconomic evolution of Spain requires a deep knowledge of its natural context. The abiotic natural complex is studied, covering geophysics, geology, and geomorphology, while the biotic complex focuses on climate, waters, biogeography, and soils. Geophysics studies the Earth's internal structure and dynamic processes. Geology and geomorphology analyze the formation, composition, and topography of the terrain. The study of climate and water examines climatic behavior, weather typologies, and the regulation and characteristics of continental and marine waters. Biogeography describes the distribution and diversity of plant and animal life. The analysis of soils involves their formation, composition, and diversity.
