Points of Interest of the National Topographic Base of Spain
Description
Points of Interest (POI) from the National Topographic Base (BTN) that represent specific prominent geographic locations that may be useful or interesting to the user. The POI layer covers the entire range and diversity of the different themes of the BTN, and represents a simplified vision of it, based on two aspects: 1. Selected elements: only those elements that are useful as a point of interest are filtered, mainly those that have a name and some others that, although they do not have it, are representative or interesting. 2. Ease of use: all elements, regardless of their original geometry in the BTN, are represented by point geometry. This new layer of points of interest is obtained from the elements contained in the different layers of the BTN. To do this, centroids of the geometries are generated, forcing, in the case of lines or polygons, for the point to be on the original geometry.
