WMS Wetlands of International Importance
Description
Wetlands of international importance constitute a set of sites protected under the Convention on Wetlands (Ramsar, 1971), of which UNESCO is the depositary, which includes sites that have a unique value both ecologically and in the capacity to implement development models compatible with their conservation. In the Canary Islands there is a site that is part of the List of Wetlands of International Importance, ES1262 Saladar de Jandía or Playa del Matorral (Fuerteventura). The information has been provided by the Biodiversity Service (Directorate-General for Natural Areas and Biodiversity – Vice-Minister for Ecological Transition, the Fight against Climate Change and Energy) and corresponds to that contained in the Resolution of 17 October 2002 of the Directorate-General for Nature Conservation, which provides for the publication of the Agreement of the Council of Ministers of 27 September 2002 authorising the inclusion in the list of the Ramsar Convention of 2 February 1971 on wetlands of international importance, especially as waterbird habitats, of the following Spanish wetlands: Txingudi, Salburua, Ullibarri Reservoir tails, Caicedo-Yuso lake and Añana salt flats, Jandía salt flats, La Nava de Fuentes lagoon and Cadiz bay, and the expansion of the Laguardia lagoons (BOE No. 278 of 20 November 2002).
