Description

Knowledge, conservation, protection and management of the marine environment is one of the priority objectives of the Marine Strategy in the European Union. In this sense, the Directorate General of Maritime Fisheries of the Principality of Asturias, through the Fisheries Experimentation Center, has been working for almost 10 years on the creation, maintenance and updating of the Geographic Information System of the Coastal and Marine Environment of the Principality of Asturias. The information collected during this time has served for the management of our marine resources, both by professionals in the sector, as well as by managers and researchers of the marine environment. The layers of information included in the dataset are: FISHING AND SEATING: - Fisheries in Asturias - Areas of exploitation of algae of the genus Gelidium ("ocle") - Management plans for the extraction of background algae of the genus Gelidium ("ocle") - Barnacle exploitation plans - Pedreros - Management plans and eel fishing areas - Octopus management plan - Vedas - Artificial reefs - Artificial reefs: sunken hulls - Fishing ports - Confraternities AQUACULTURE: - Aquaculture concessions and facilities - Shellfish treatment plants - Areas of Interest for Marine Crops - Mollusc and other invertebrate production areas - Potential and preferred areas of marine aquaculture - Potential areas on land for marine aquaculture.
