Sensitive Wind by Weather Radar
Description
Environmental sensitivity by C-band weather radars to wind farms in Castilla y León.
Environmental sensitivity to wind energy production facilities in areas close to C-band weather radars in Castilla y León. These infrastructures are very expensive and are essential for the prediction and monitoring of adverse weather events such as heavy rains. Weather radars must be located in unobstructed locations so that the radar signal, emitted in electromagnetic pulses in all directions (360o in azimuth) and at different elevations, is not blocked or shielded (or to the least extent possible). One of the biggest problems in the operation of weather radars is the proximity of wind farms. Wind turbines, if they are close to the weather radar, intercept the electromagnetic signal partially blocking the signal and also generating intense false echoes.
Digital cartography in which the sensitivity to this type of actions is evaluated in certain enclaves of the territory of Castilla y León.
* The submission of this information does not replace the relevant procedures for environmental impact assessment of projects or prejudge the results of the corresponding environmental impact statements, since they are offered only to facilitate an early assessment from the first stages of defining a potential renewable energy project on the condition of C-band meteorological radars.
