Description
Web map display service, according to the WMS-OGC standard, which covers the topic of elevations (item 1, Annex II of the INSPIRE Directive: El — Elevation).
INSPIRE’s Elevation theme refers to digital elevation models (MDEs) for the land surface, icy surfaces and the ocean floor. That is, it involves both altymetric and bathymetric data. The route of the coastline is assigned to the theme Sea Regions (Annex III item 16).
The main component of the MDE is the elevation property referring to a specific origin (vertical reference or datum). This property can be height or depth. The two magnitudes are modeled together. The INSPIRE proposal considers an elevation for each planimetric position (known as 2.5-D modeling) and allows for description in terms of both ground digital models (MDT) and digital surface models (MDS).
