Geotechnical Map of the Canary Islands

Description

The Geotechnical Map of the Canary Islands consists of the zoning of the island territory, with the limitations that the scale and nature of the materials allow, in areas of more or less homogeneous geotechnical behavior (geotechnical units) that, for the purposes of geotechnical recognition planning, will have a similar treatment. These geotechnical units have in turn been classified within the terrain groups defined by the Basic Structural Safety Document (DB SE-C) of the Technical Building Code (CTE). The Geotechnical Map of the Canary Islands is an essential tool for the implementation of the “Guide for the planning and realisation of geotechnical studies for construction in the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands GETCAN-011”, which is a document recognised in the CTE Registry with reference CTE-DR-045-13. The editorial team of the guide consisted of the prestigious Dr. Ingeniero de Caminos, Canales y Puertos, professor of the Polytechnic University of Madrid president of the Spanish Society of Mechanics of Rocas, Mr. Claudio Olalla Marañon, by the Dr. in Geological Sciences and professor at the University of La Laguna, Mr. José Antonio Rodríguez Losada and by the Head of the Geotechnics Section of the Vice-Administration of Infrastructure, Mr. Luis E. Hernández Gutiérrez. Once the document was drafted, it was submitted to the debate among the following collaborating institutions invited to participate: Canary Islands Institute of Housing, Social Housing of the Canary Islands (Visocan), College of Engineers of Roads, Canals and Ports, College of Architects, College of Technical Architects and Riders, College of Geologists, College of Mining Engineers, College of Technical Engineers of Mines, College of Industrial Engineers, College of Technical Engineers of Public Works, Foundation Center for Information and Construction Economics (CIEC), provincial Federation of Construction Entities of Santa Cruz de Tenerife (Fepeco), Association of Construction Entrepreneurs of the Province of Las Palmas, University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, University of La Laguna, and Association of Quality Control Companies (AECCTI).
