Socio-economic considerations under genetic technology law
Description
Socio-economic assessments of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) are being discussed again with the emergence of new genetic engineering. This report covers different assessment systems and explores the extent to which sustainability and environmental issues are taken into account. In addition, an overview of the existing data situation is provided. Data gaps, including social, environmental and longer-term impacts, influence the practical implementation of a comprehensive socio-economic assessment of GMOs. Finally, the report discusses the prerequisites for full consideration of environmental aspects in the authorisation of GMOs, including the question of which risks exist, e.g. when introducing a risk-benefit analysis.
