Visual Quality – Scenic Values
Description
This layer shows the results obtained in the quality/fragility assessment matrix included in the Landscape Studies of the Region of Murcia for each of the Homogeneous Landscape Units in which the Region is subdivided.
The results obtained in the quality/fragility assessment matrix assess the ‘Scenic Values of a Landscape’ in relation to its formal and compositional aspects.
Coinciding with the approval of the European Landscape Convention, on October 20, 2000 in Florence, the Ministry that held the competences in the field of Spatial Planning of the Region of Murcia, began the drafting of Landscape Studies of subregional scope, which would serve as support for the drafting of Guidelines and Spatial Planning Plans that, in the same areas, were to begin immediately.
During the period 2001-2007, seven Landscape Studies were drafted in the following territorial areas: 1.- Metropolitan Area of Murcia (Huerta de Murcia and Vega Media), 2.- South Coast, 3.- Northwest, 4.- Altiplano, 5.- Mula River, Vega Alta, Ricote and Oriental Valley, 6.- Campo de Murcia, Cartagena and Mar Menor, 7.- Guadalentín Valley. In 2009 the Atlas of Landscapes of the Region of Murcia was published, as a compendium of all Landscape Studies.
