Vessel traffic monitoring - SafeSeaNet
Description
Ships transiting EU waters are tracked daily in real-time through SafeSeaNet, the EU’s vessel traffic monitoring and information system. EMSA manages this central system which assists search and rescue bodies, pollution response centres and vessel traffic services by providing information on incidents affecting ships navigating in EU waters as well as on cargo particularly as concerns the carriage of dangerous or polluting goods. The system promotes greater efficiency and safety as it facilitates port logistics and provides overall information on vessel traffic to public authorities.
