Special Eurobarometer SP529 : Fairness, Inequality and Inter-Generational Mobility

Description

What are the views of Europeans on fairness and inequality? 47% of Europeans think they have equal opportunities for getting ahead in life compared to others, and 38% believe that most of the things that happen in their life are fair. 81% of the population in EU member states think that the differences in income are too great in their country, and 78% think their government should do more to tackle these inequalities in income - 73% think so about the EU. 78% of Europeans believe that overall public spending on key social policies should increase. This survey also reflects on how increased public spending should be financed – support for different ways of taxation – as well which social policy areas deserve more spending. Lastly, this survey considers the experience of Europeans during the Covid-19 pandemic.
