Tuscany Region - Libraries
Description
In Tuscany there are about 1,100 libraries (1,048 are registered in the Information System), of which 340 are public by local authority (municipal, provincial). Since 2000 many resources have been invested to qualify the local public library as a "square of knowledge", as a place of meeting and access to culture and information for all citizens. Tuscany is also home to some of the most important specialised libraries belonging to major cultural institutions, which often also hold the papers of major players in national culture (such as the Accademia della Crusca, the Gabinetto Vieusseux, the Accademia dei Georgofili, etc.), as well as important state, university, ecclesiastical and private libraries.
