Raw materials of electromobility.
Description
Electric vehicles are just as dependent on finite raw materials as vehicles with combustion engines. However, their operation uses up to eight times less raw materials than that of diesel or gasoline vehicles, as fossil fuels do not have to be used for this. For this purpose, other raw materials are used in electric vehicles in larger quantities, which are often mined under socially and/or ecologically critical conditions. These include lithium, cobalt, manganese, nickel, graphite, platinum metals and rare earths. The study analyses sources and globally available reserves of these raw materials and compares the expected demand by 2050. Recommendations are derived from this, which help to establish high social and environmental standards in the promotion of raw materials indispensable for electromobility.
