Municipal waste generation at municipal level since 2017
Description
The data in question concern the annual production of municipal waste at municipal level starting from 2017, including the % of separate collection and the details of the types of waste collected, formally approved with specific management determination. In particular, the percentage of separate collection is calculated on the basis of the regional method referred to in Regional Decree No 15-5870 of 3 November 2017, which is consistent with the national method. Data acquisition takes place through the ‘Yucca – Smart Data Platform’, which is accessed by waste management consortia, data providers, provinces, the metropolitan city of Turin and the region, each with specific functions depending on the profile assigned. It should be noted that the data are not fully comparable with previous years due to a different method of calculating waste generation and separate collection. In particular, with the new calculation method in RD, types of waste that were not previously counted are included: domestic composting (provided it is regulated by the municipality of reference with a maximum per capita limit of 120 kg), waste assimilated to municipal waste (eg those produced by supermarkets, commercial activities and operators), construction and demolition waste of domestic origin (with a limit of 15 kg per capita), road sweeping waste sent for recovery and finally minor selective collections (exhausted batteries, expired drugs, oils, paints and toner). In addition, all harvests are counted before waste. Total municipal waste produced (RT) consists of the sum of waste collected separately (RD) and sent to recovery operations and unsorted municipal waste (RU) that remains from separate collection. It should be noted that for bulky and raee, both the sum of the two types of waste (bulky_raee) was provided in order to be consistent with the data approved, and the quantity of bulky and raee respectively. Similarly, for packaging collected using the multi-material method, in addition to the sum of all the packaging collected, the details relating to the individual multi-material plastic cans and multi-material metal glass collections have been provided. The other multi-material collections, which are numerically and quantitatively insignificant and can still be obtained as a difference between ‘multimoterial’ and ‘glass_metal’ and ‘plastic_cans’, have not been detailed. It should be noted that in Piedmont, waste management consortia can have a territorial extension that goes beyond provincial limits. This is the case of the municipalities of Moncalvo (AT) belonging to the Consorzio Casalese Rifiuti di AL, Mombaldone (AT) belonging to the Consorzio Servizi Rifiuti del Novese Tortonese Acquese e Ovadese di AL, Moncucco Torinese (AT) belonging to the Consorzio Chierese per gli servizi della Città metropolitana di Torino, Villata (VC) belonging to the Consorzio di bacino Basso Novarese.
