Register of Geographical Names
Description
The Geographical Names Register is the basic state geoinformation layer. It contains names of objects that have some temporal, historical, ethnological or socially established identity, meaning that they are more or less permanent in the environment. The register covers the names of places (names of inhabited places, their parts and names of buildings), hydrons (water names), orones (names of relief forms) and horons (names of landscape parts). The names are covered by the basic topographic plans in scale 1: 5,000 and 1: 10,000, from national topographic maps on scale 1: 25,000 and from national transparent maps in criteria 1: 250,000 and 1: 1.000.000.
The cuts serve as an independent geoinformation layer for locating objects into space, as an upgrade of other geoinformation layers with geographical names, for applications in the field of topography, cartography, and for geographical, statistical and linguistic analyses.
