Tuscany Region — Special Protection Areas (SPAs)
Description
‘Areas of the regional territory of naturalistic and environmental interest classified in accordance with Regional Law 56/2000 repealed and replaced by Regional Law 30/2015 (http://www.regione.toscana.it/documents/13817346/0/LR+30_2015_v1_2016.pdf/114adb71-37d5-4d4b-8331-70b0a47817c6), implementing Directive 79/409/EEC ‘Birds’, repealed and replaced by Directive 2009/147/EC (http://www.regione.toscana.it/documents/10180/392141/2c294f5d57170614f949fd885cb69195_direttivaceeuccelli.pdf/240a9390-83f3-4555-89b8-7ca75ab28ed5). The aim of SPAs is to “preserve all species of naturally living birds in the wild” which is achieved both through the protection of birds and by the protection of their natural habitats.The SPAs constitute the Natura 2000 Network, which is the instrument at European level through which to preserve species of flora and fauna, threatened or endangered, and the natural environments that host them.For more information see also https://www.regione.toscana.it/-/rete-natura-2000-in-toscana-2”.
