Region Tuscany — Technical geological database of surface deposits (GeolTec_DS) and surface landslide susceptibility estimate
Description
The extent of the destructive effects linked to landslides and the knowledge on the distribution of landslides in Tuscany, known from the landslides inventory of the Geomorphological DB, indicate that the susceptibility from landslides in the Tuscan territory is generally high due to essentially litological, morphological and meteo-climatic causes. The intense weather events of the last decades have also shown that landslides located in the surface deposits of the slope (DS), i.e. the soil above the “substrate”, represent a particularly high and spatially widespread source of danger. In order to better characterise the phenomenon, a database containing the geological and technical characteristics of the DS was created for the Garfagnana territory and part of Lunigiana to make the quantitative predictive assessment of surface landslides susceptibility more reliable.The project described was therefore aimed at progressively improving the accuracy of surface landslides susceptibility estimates by achieving the following objectives:a) Geological-technical characterisation of DS.b) Assessment of surface landslides susceptibility in specific subsets of DS areas detected and characterised.
