Tuscany Region — Regional Natural Reserves
Description
The Regional Law on Protected Areas 30/2015 "Norms for the conservation and enhancement of the regional natural-environmental heritage. Amendments to Regional Law 24/1994, Regional Law 65/1997, Regional Law 24/2000 and Regional Law No 10/2010" brings together in a single coordinated framework policies for the protection, conservation and enhancement of the regional natural environment heritage, consisting of the regional system of protected natural areas and the regional biodiversity system. Since 1 January 2016, the Region of Tuscany has exercised its powers in the field of protected areas and protection of biodiversity previously in the hands of the Provinces and the Metropolitan City. In particular, the natural reserves established during the period of validity of Regional Law 49/95 have become regional management. These territories represent a natural and environmental treasure from the point of view of biodiversity and often intersect with habitats and species of flora and fauna of particular value and interest, included in the Natura 2000 Network sites recognised by the European Union.
