Regional Ecological Network - Habitat map and simplified habitat coverage
Description
A map of habitats on a regional scale has been created below 1400 meters of altitude, identifying habitats according to the EUNIS classification system (2012 version) developed by the European Environment Agency. Depending on the detail that the available databases allowed to reach, around 85 environments were selected that constitute the ‘reference legend’ and correspond for the most part to natural or semi-natural habitats. The availability of the databases also influenced the quota factor, which was managed by drawing up a representative habitat map up to 1400 m, above this limit a simplified habitat coverage was created.The simplified habitat coverage above the 1400 m altitude limit is based on the simplified and more expedient ‘reference habitat law’ considering that the available cartographic bases are lacking in the mountain/alpine area and that above this limit there are fewer problems in terms of ecological connectivity and territorial fragmentation. The legend is characterized by habitats falling into the first Eunis level.
