Natural accelerograms – NTC 2018 – WMS

Description

In the context of the Convention 2022-2024 between the Lombardy Region and the Eucentre Foundation, the European Centre for Training and Research in Seismic Engineering, seismic input has been defined in terms of natural accelerograms recorded on emerging rock (subsoil category ‘A’ according to NTC 2018).Such accelerograms are directly usable as inputs for dynamic analysis of works and geotechnical systems and for the dynamic analysis of structures located on category A land. 3.2.3.6. and cap. 7.11.3 of NTC18, cap. 3.2.3.1 of Circular 2019). It is widely recognised in the scientific community that the use of recorded (or natural) accelerograms is preferable to other types of accelerograms both for structural and geotechnical problems, as they are characterised by a more realistic frequency content, a correct temporal correlation between the horizontal and vertical components of the shaking, and a realistic energy content in relation to seismogenic parameters (EC8-1 Part 5, Bommer and Acevedo 2004).
