Pre-standard and ceased landfills
Description
Landfills may be classified, on the basis of their period of operation and related legislation, into: ‘pre-standard landfills’, active before 1980, ‘discontinued landfills’, authorised landfills for which the transfer activity ended between 1980 and 2003 and finally ‘landfills within the meaning of Legislative Decree No 36/2003’. The definition of the different types is set out in Article 17-ter of Regional Law No 26/2003. The map service makes it possible to consult the first two types, with the aim of providing a complete picture of the area. Knowing the location of old landfills, in fact, is useful, for example, to design infrastructures, for spatial planning, to facilitate the placement of renewable energy plants in these areas, to ensure control and monitoring.
