Coastal Dynamics Indicators - Long-term shoreline dynamics (1943-2019)
Description
The "Dynamic long-term shoreline" is presented through transects orthogonal to the coast that intercept the two shorelines, thus allowing to monitor movements towards the sea, stretches in advance of the coast, and those in which the coast line moves towards land, areas in retreat. The shorelines were photointerpreted on the orthorectified aerial flights Ortofotopiano Volo RAF - Riprese 1943-1944 and Ortofotopiano Volo costa 2019 and for the photointerpretation the dry-wet criterion was followed, as described in the work (Calabrese L. and Lorito S. 2010). The calculation is based on the use of the appropriate 'tool' for GIS developed by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) and called Digital Shoreline Analysis System (DSAS). The tool allows you to define a baseline on the ground from which transects are generated to it orthogonal and equidistant from each other 20 meters. Along each transept the shorelines are intersected, thus obtaining information on the displacement of the position in time. Negative shifts denote the retreat of the shoreline, positive ones an advance.
