Bases of the geological units of the subsoil of the plain - Base of the aquifer A2
Description
RER and ENI in 1998 in underground water reserves of the Emilia-Romagna Region analyzed the first hundreds of meters of subsoil of the Emilia-Romagna plain, identifying three aquifer groups, classified, from the most superficial to the deepest, as A, B and C. The aquifer groups are hydrostratigraphic units, or geological bodies that constitute a domain of the physical space in which a reasonably distinct hydrological system is located (Maxey G. B., 1964. Hydrostratigraphic units. Journal of Hydrology, 2, 124-129). Groups A and B are formed mainly by alluvial sediments, group C by marine sediments. The aquifer complexes represent hydrostratigraphic units of lower rank than the aquifer groups. The aquifer group A was subdivided from the top into A1, A2, A3 and A4. In 2010, the Emilia-Romagna Region mapped the basal limit of some aquifer complexes within the already defined groups, including A2. Based on what is reported in "Groundwater reserves of the Emilia-Romagna Region", it is conceivable that the base of the A2 aquifer complex is about 250,000 years old. The "BASE_A2" dataset represents the depth to sea level of the base of the A2 aquifer complex, provided in both vector and raster format. Vector "BASE_A2" reports the depth of the baseline limit of the Acquifero A2 complex by means of isobates referred to sea level. "BASE_A2" in raster format shows the same information as the vector, with cells of 100 x 100 m. The A2 aquifer complex corresponds to the AES6 unit (Bazzano alomembra) of the geological maps of the CARG project.
