Magic2 Map of the Hierarchisation of Critical Points (PC): Tyrrhenian Sea, Adriatic and Ionian Sea. (RNDT-Dataset) — Version 2.0
Description
This document is a map (GeoTIFF) representing the Critical Points (PC) mapped in the Magic1 project and their hierarchisation (executed in the Magic2 project). In particular, this map shows the sector of the eastern Tyrrhenian Sea, the southern Adriatic Sea and the northern center Ionian Sea.Herarchisation means the division of PCs into 5 main types in relation to the geological process to which they are associated: canyon/channel heads, landslides, tectonic features, volcanoes and leakage of fluids (Pockmark).Besides these there are two types represented that are PCs not classifiable due to lack of data and PCs in other categories. It is important to underline that the hierarchisation of PCs is relative in that it occurs within each category (not to be compared with each other critical points referring to risks of different types) similar to what happens on the ground e.g. for the different natural hazards (hydrogeological, seismic, volcanic).In the Magic Project have been defined Criticity Points one or more morpho-batimetric elements at which, in the view of the interpreter, a phenomenon that could cause damage to the surrounding infrastructures and/or coastal communities could be generated. The definition of PCs takes into account all available data types (historical, seismic, modeling) and is also based on the specific knowledge of the interpreters in the different areas. All this implies that the identification of PCs is extremely subjective and related to the previous knowledge and data available to the interpreter.
