Description
Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are condensed aromatic compounds produced by the incomplete combustion of organic material or fossil fuels. Due to the carcinogenic and mutagenic effects demonstrated in animal studies for some substances, PAHs pose a risk to human health. The majority of PAH emissions are due to domestic fires, calorific power plants, motor vehicle traffic and industrial plants, in particular coking plants, gas plants and refineries.
