Pharmaceutical assistance: Territorial gross expenditure

Gross general expenditure on medicines distributed through local pharmacies in 2015 and reimbursed by the Provincial Health Service remained constant compared to the previous year at around €61.7 million (if net expenditure is taken into account, there is a slight decrease compared to 2014 of 0.2%). At the national level*, on the other hand, the trend of a more significant decline in net expenditure of affiliated pharmaceuticals continues in 2015. The Provincial Health Service has spent on average about 118 Euro per capita for drugs provided by pharmacies in the area (from 82 Euro of gross expenditure per capita in the health district of Val Gardena to 141 Euro in the district of Bolzano). Compared to the previous year, the Val Badia district recorded a significant increase of €4 more per capita (respectively from an average expenditure of €101 per capita in 2014 to €105 per capita in 2015); In contrast, the district of Naturno-district recorded the largest decrease in its average expenditure of less than €3 per capita (respectively from €114 per capita in 2014 to €111 in 2015). In the general ranking of therapeutic groups, pantoprazole (medicine used against gastric ulcer and diseases of the gastroesophageal system) remains in first place among the active ingredients with the highest expenditure (approximately 2.0 million Euro equal to 3.3% of the total gross expenditure on the territory) exceeding the active ingredient of rosuvastatin (approximately 1.8 million Euro equal to 3.0% of the total gross expenditure on the territory). Among the top twenty therapeutic subgroups for greater expenditure (which alone account for more than a third of the entire provincial territorial pharmaceutical expenditure), the majority belong to drugs for the cardiovascular system (statins, drugs for the treatment of hypertension, heart disease and heart failure) * Source: Federfarma
