Road characteristics database-WKD / Traffic types
Description
The road attribute database is a collection of databases each with a relevant road attribute
which can be linked to the national road register (NWB). This can be road characteristics
are such as, for example, the maximum speed, the width of the road or the presence of entries.
A separate file is available for each of these road characteristics.
In this road characteristics database, the authorised road users per road and direction of travel are
displayed. This means that routes can be driven with, for example, the bicycle. You
may ride the bicycle on more roads than just the cycle paths. It also becomes so clear where
you can come with which vehicle and where not. For example, it may be that a street
for the bike is accessible in both directions and for the car only in one direction.
To determine what type of traffic is allowed, use is made of the
traffic sign file.
The traffic types are subdivided into the following categories:
- Pedestrians
- Bicycle/snorbicycle
- Moped
- Motorcycle
- Passenger car
- Motor vehicles with trailers
- Truck
- Bus
- Agricultural vehicles
The permissible direction of travel of the type of traffic shall also be taken into account.
Out of scope
When determining the permitted traffic types, no account shall be taken of the
following situations:
- The exceptional situations applicable to motor vehicles in the case of restrictions
for height, width, length, load, axle load, hazardous substances and environmental zones
- Window times defined for certain traffic types. These
exceptional situations are difficult to read on the underplates of the national
traffic signs and are not uniformly structured.
Refurbishment WKD Road characteristics
In the coming period, the road characteristics will be redesigned with the aim of more compact and uniform recording of data. This removes certain technical columns, such as NWB_version and Roadbox start date, due to their redundancy or lack of added value.
The following WKD attributes will be updated:
• Axle load restrictions
• Height restrictions
• Burden restrictions
• Length restrictions
• School zone
• Traffic types
• Road width
• Road categorisation
• Road narrowings
Both variants of the custom data will be available next month on the usual platforms.
Adjustments to WKD files
In addition, in all WKD files, the Start Date and WVK_ID columns are inverted for uniform identification. This change will be implemented in autumn 2024.
