Ground temperature timeseries (2014-2019) and cryostratigraphy from Villum Research Station, Station Nord, eastern North Greenland (81° N)
Description
This research received funding from INTERACT under the European Union H2020 Grant Agreement No.871120; this funding covered the summer 2017 fieldwork costs through INTERACT's transnational access program. The University Centre in Svalbard (UNIS) and the authors are grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with VRS and establish permafrost monitoring as part of their climate monitoring program. Wesley Farnsworth, Graham Gilbert, and Ullrich Neumann (Kolibri Geo Services) drilled the boreholes and collected the samples. Luca Durstewitz prepared the samples (core cutting, cataloguing, and photographing) and did initial lab analysis (gravimetric moisture content and sieving) during her internship at UNIS in spring 2019. Jørgen Skafte kindly assisted with downloading the borehole temperature data in summer 2019. Station Nord military personnel and the staff and researchers associated with VRS helped with logistics and contributed to an excellent fieldwork and research environment. Prof. Henrik Skov has been particularly supportive of this project and ensured a successful field season in August 2017.
