Lisbon thermal comfort and meteorological data

Description

The thermal comfort dataset was developed through itinerant meteorological measurements conducted in Lisbon, across various urban morphological conditions, in the winter, spring, summer and autumn. The walks lasted between one hour and one and a half hours. During these walks, surveys were administered to university students. Meteorological data was collected using a mobile weather station, while the surveys were conducted using the Survey123 app. Meteorological dataset – The mobile weather station sensors' configurations can be seen in the following journal article: https://doi.org/10.1016/j.uclim.2024.101933. The weather station collected data on air temperature (AirTemp), relative humidity (HRel), wind speed (WS), and wind direction—recorded both in degrees (WDir) and cardinal directions (WDirCard)—using a sonic anemometer with a built-in compass. Additional measurements included dew point temperature (DewP), barometric pressure (BPress), black globe temperature (BGTemp_C), as well as shortwave and longwave solar radiation, both incoming and outgoing (SWin, SWout, LWin, LWout), and net radiation (SWnet, LWnet, NR). The Universal Thermal Climate Index (UTCI) and Mean Radiant Temperature (Tmrt) were calculated concurrently as the meteorological data was recorded. Data was collected every 5 to 10 seconds, depending on GPS signal availability. The GPS data includes three components: longitude, latitude, and altitude. Lastly, this dataset also has the timestamp (date and hour) when the itinerant measurement was conducted. Surveys dataset – The survey was divided into two phases. The first phase, conducted before the walk, included questions regarding the respondents’ sociodemographic characteristics, the type and colour of clothing worn—quantified using the clothing insulation value (clo)—as well as their initial thermal perceptions. Participants were asked about their thermal sensations in relation to air temperature, solar radiation, humidity, and wind speed, as well as how they were feeling overall. Geolocation data was also recorded. In addition, the survey incorporated the classification of weather type, following the approach described in https://doi.org/10.1016/j.uclim.2024.101933.  The second phase, conducted during the walk, was broader in scope and aimed to understand pedestrians’ perceptions of thermal sensation, thermal preference, and overall thermal pleasantness.
