HealthFerm citizen science – surveys, home experiment instructions, and participant metadata

This archive contains core materials and metadata from the citizen science sourdough initiative as part of the HealthFerm project. It includes the participant registration and result surveys, a standardized instruction booklet for at-home sourdough experiments, a combined metadata file integrating survey responses and scientist-recorded sourdough measurements, and a variable dictionary detailing each metadata field. Over 1000 citizen scientists across 33 countries participated, contributing survey responses, experimental results, and sourdough samples. This dataset provides a foundation for large-scale analysis of fermentation practices, motivations, and sourdough characteristics across Europe. Contents of this archive: 01_signup_questionnaire_survey_1.pdf – Initial registration questionnaire completed by participants during sign-up. 02_results_questionnaire_survey_2.pdf – Follow-up questionnaire completed by participants after performing home experiments. 03_instruction_booklet.pdf – Standardized instructions for measuring sourdough and bread pH, bread density, and performing aroma evaluations at home. 04_sourdough_metadata.tsv – Merged metadata file with anonymized participant responses and sample codes. 05_variable_dictionary.tsv – Explanation of each column in the metadata file, including variable names, units, and descriptions.
