Description
Vessel traffic density data based on Automatic Identification System (AIS) data. The data is available for download in TIF and Esri Shape file formats. Density data are presented for the Estonian sea area as a regular grid with a square side length of 500 m. Vessel traffic density is calculated for the whole year for all vessels as well as for a few vessel types. Vessel types are cargo, fishing , passenger, tankers, pleasure craft including sailing, vessels over 24 m in length and vessels under 24 m in length. There may be some brief gaps in the data when there has been failures in receiving or storing AIS messages.
Vessel traffic density data is intended to be used to identify general shipping corridors, not to analyze shipping in depth.
