SMI - Statistical forest inventory dataset
Description
The Statistical Forest Inventory (SMI) carried out annually by the Environment Agency is a selection study with which information on forests can be obtained operationally and economically. The method allows objective monitoring of forest dynamics in the country as a whole. The main task of the SMI is to describe the forests and the changes that take place there, including providing a logging overview. In addition to forest information, data on, for example, the moral distribution of land, the wood reserve of non-forest lands and the afforestation may be recorded. In a situation where data for a significant part of the forest were hopelessly obsolete or missing at all, the Statistical Forest Inventory (SMI) was started in Estonia in 1999.
