National Coral Reef Monitoring Program: Dissolved inorganic carbon, total alkalinity, pH, and other variables collected from surface discrete measurements using coulometer, alkalinity titrator, and other instruments in the Hawaiian Archipelago from 2024-05-30 to 2024-08-28 (NCEI Accession 0306674)

Description

This dataset contains discrete carbonate chemistry data collected by the National Coral Reef Monitoring Program (NCRMP) in the Hawaiian Archipelago in 2024. Since 2013, NCRMP monitoring efforts have tracked key environmental and ecological indicators that are expected to change with ocean acidification (OA), including carbonate chemistry and coral reef carbonate accretion and erosion rates. NCRMP OA data are co-located and integrated with ecological monitoring data sets to provide a robust characterization of coral reef ecosystem status and trends. The 2024 NCRMP Hawaiian Archipelago was conducted in the main Hawaiian Islands (Ni‘ihau, Kaua‘i, O‘ahu, Maui, Moloka‘i, Lāna‘i, Kaho‘olawe, and Hawai‘i Island) and Northwestern Hawaiian Islands (French Frigate Shoals/Lalo, Lisianski/Kapou, Pearl and Hermes/Manawai, and Kure/Hōlanikū) aboard NOAA Ship Oscar Elton Sette from 2024-05-30 to 2024-08-28. Discrete water samples were collected in Niskin bottles and paired with CTD casts at fixed and stratified random NCRMP survey sites. Samples were analyzed for dissolved inorganic carbon and total alkalinity at the University of Hawai'i at Mānoa.
