Near-time forecast of Austrian greenhouse gas emissions for 2022 (Nowcast 2023).
Description
The near-term forecast of greenhouse gas emissions was carried out using a simplified methodology and shows preliminary emissions of around 72.6 million tonnes for 2022. Compared to 2021, this represents a decrease of 6.4 % and 5.0 million CO2 equivalent, respectively. Reported emissions from emission trading facilities were 7.2 % lower in 2022 at 26.6 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent. This is mainly due to declines in industry (including decreased steel production) and refinery. In the non-European emissions trading sectors, around 45.9 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent were emitted in 2022. The decline in emissions of around 5.9 % compared to 2021 is mainly due to the decrease in fuel consumption (-4 %), fuel oil (-16 %) and natural gas (-14 %).
