MUSEUM OF PHOTOGRAPHY "CHRISOS KALEMKERIS" OF THE MUNICIPALITY OF KALAMARIA

Description

The Museum of Photography "Christos Kalemkeris" was founded as a legal entity of Public Law of the Municipality of Kalamaria in 2001. The archive and the publishing house of the Museum are housed in privately owned facilities at 48A Andreas Papandreou Street, while the exhibition space is planned in the future to be the three-storey building of the dormitories in the area of the "Kodra" camp. The archive of the Museum includes rich and important photographic material from 1838 (origins of the art of photography) until today on important issues of Greek and foreign photographers who staff the very history of photography in Greece and the Mediterranean during the 19th and 20th centuries. Among these subjects, rare photographs from the history of the Greek railway network and the tramway of Greece, from the Balkan and the two world wars, as well as from the antiquities of Greece and Asia Minor have a prominent place.
