Mobility reversal begins in mind: Change of values and knowledge formation.
Description
The transport sector is one of the main causes of greenhouse gas emissions. Absolute direct CO2 emissions in passenger cars increased by 5.1 % between 1995 and 2019 despite technological advances. The data and figures show that the climate target in the transport sector cannot be achieved without a successive reduction in driving and the switch to environmentally friendly means of transport. One starting point is in particular the limitation and reduction of the driving and traffic performance of motorised individual transport (MIV). The subject of this short study is the question to what extent the mobility transition can be driven by targeted awareness-building measures: What are the preconditions for them to have an effect? What cognitive aspects should be considered? How can long-established habits be broken and mobility decisions can be successfully influenced? And what can local authorities do in this regard? The focus of the study is on driving and avoiding it.
