Description
Act No. 37/1991 came into force on 1 November 1991.
On this occasion, a list of all first, second and third names was drawn up in the register of registers of the National Registry. Only the names of those who had Icelandic citizenship in the National Registry were included on the list.
From the list was so common. It was decided to release many rare and uncommon names that people bore them in the National Registry and leave it to the inhabitants of the country to force their further recording of their names. The list was added to the list of old names from our literature that the Icelandic scholars seemed acceptable and believed to become popular again.
After this, the register of names was printed (polygraphy) and ready for use on the date of entry into force of the Act.
