Description
Painting:
The collection includes paintings with a focus on ecclesiastical and historical art as well as portrait painting. The glass paintings are the world’s largest and most important collection.
Sculpture:
The museum has an excellent inventory of medieval wooden sculptures and altarpieces. The collection is representative of the traditional collection of medieval sculptures in Swiss territory; accordingly, it is of international importance.
Mural:
The collection includes murals and frescoes. Important are the Carolingian frescoes from Müstair, the frescoes of Ferdinand Hodler in the Hall of Fame of the State Museum of Zurich and the mural by Hans Erni. Important inventory of Romanesque frescoes from different types of buildings.
