Corine Land Cover year 2006 — IV Level

Description

The CORINE programme (COoRdination de l’Information sur l’Environnement), which was launched by the Council of the European Communities in 1985, is intended to dynamically monitor the state of the environment in the Community area, with a view to guiding common policies, monitoring their effects and proposing possible corrective measures. The Corine Land Cover (CLC) project was created at European level specifically for the detection and monitoring of coverage and land use characteristics, with particular attention to environmental protection requirements. A first realisation of the CLC project dates back to 1990 (CLC90), subsequently updated to the year 2000 through the Image — Corine Land Cover 2000 project. A project to update the CLC started in November 2004, covering the year 2006. With this project a European mosaic was created based on satellite images SPOT-4 HRVIR, SPOT 5 HRG and/or IRS P6 LISS III, deriving from the same digital mapping of land use/covering and related changes. As has already been the case for the CLC 2000 IV level, also in this case and for the Italian territory alone, it has been decided to extend the legend to level IV for wooded surfaces and other semi-natural environments.
