Ports smaller islands Italy_Deroga ETS
Description
The dataset of points identifies the port locations of the smaller Italian islands for commercial or transport purposes identified on the basis of the European Emissions Trading System (ETS) 2003/87/EC which provides for a specific derogation from the obligations to surrender allowances from greenhouse gas emissions generated by the maritime sector on voyages carried out by passenger ships, other than cruise ships and ro-pax ships from an island port, without a road or rail link with the mainland and with a population of less than 200.000 permanent residents, according to the most recent data available in 2022. The recently revised European Emissions Trading System (ETS) Directive 2003/87/EC has expanded its scope with the gradual inclusion of new sectors, with the gradual extension of the ETS to emissions from maritime transport in 2024 during commercial passenger or freight journeys from 2025 onwards. The information layer contains toponymic, administrative and census information based on the UN LOCODE locality list and the latest data published by ISTAT.
